Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our multi-carrier cellular technology and our multi-IMSI SIM cards
What is a multi-operator M2M SIM card?
Multi-operator M2M SIM cards physically resemble traditional SIM cards. It is available in the same formats but also in eSIM.
M2M – Machine To Machine – means that this machine to machine SIM card allows direct communication between two machines, without human intervention. It is used in the IoT ecosystem and requires an M2M data plan.
The multi-operator IoT SIM card is remotely configurable via a cellular platform.
Multi-operator IoT SIM cards scan mobile networks and connect to the one with the best signal.
When an IoT SIM card loses signal, it automatically switches to a backup network. This technology guarantees a continuous data flow with low latency.
By default, the IoT SIM card profile is configured to connect to the network that offers the best signal and automatically switch to a backup carrier in the event of a primary carrier outage.
However, depending on our customers' agreements with national operators, it is possible, thanks to our Move & Connect Manager platform, to prioritize networks and assign a different profile to each device worldwide.
What is roaming ?
International data roaming consists in connecting to the Internet via a different carrier than the one subscribed.
With our multi-carrier SIM cards your device connects to 600+ carriers across 200 countries.
What is an IoT SIM card?
An IoT SIM card is designed to send and receive data with more memory and durability than a standard SIM card.
IoT SIM cards also last longer—up to 10 years or more. They are able to withstand environmental challenges like vibration and extreme temperatures.
Our IoT SIM cards are available in triple cut and MFF2 form factors. They include over the air (OTA) provisioning capabilities.

How do I adjust my IoT data plan?
Get the best cellular IoT pricing or change your IoT data plans easily thanks to our friendly support team and account manager.
What is an agnostic SIM card?
An agnostic SIM card is independent of the device you are using and does not require any configuration.
What is Multi-IMSI?
Multi IMSI stands for International Mobile Subscriber Identity, it is a unique number that mobile network operators use to recognize individual subscribers. It is a key element of a SIM card configuration profile.
eUICC: What it is and how it works?
An eUICC-capable SIM can be remotely updated. Our eUICC IoT SIM Cards are available in both triple cut card and MFF2 embedded form factors.
This allows enterprises to order eSIM subscriptions in bulk from a wireless carrier. They can then upload the activation codes into our portal to centrally and remotely provision multiple profiles. The eSIM talks to the carrier’s platform and the devices can be swiftly connected.
You can change your connectivity quickly and efficiently. This makes connectivity not just simple, but it allows you to do this at scale, all while managing deployments through one portal.
What is NB-IoT?
NarrowBand-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a standards-based low power wide area (LPWA) technology developed to enable a wide range of new IoT devices and services. NB-IoT significantly improves the power consumption of user devices, system capacity and spectrum efficiency, especially in deep coverage. Battery life of more than 10 years can be supported for a wide range of use cases.
What is LTE-M?
LTE-M is a branch of LTE technology that was built for M2M (machine-to-machine) communication and IoT (Internet of Things) applications. This technology is used for interconnecting objects such as IoT sensors, vehicles or other devices.
Defined in 3GPP Release 14, Cat-M2 offers more than three times the bandwidth and several times the download and upload speed of Cat-M1
Advantages of LTE-M :
Low device costs
4G infrastructure was primarily built for smartphones. LTE-M infrastructure was built for IoT devices. Most IoT devices must be small and fit on equipment that is very cost-sensitive. The components required for LTE-M devices are less complex and more affordable than the components needed for a traditional 4G device.
Power consumption
As cellular networks were designed for cell phones, they constantly ping cellular devices to retrieve locations information, which helps keep the phone connected to the closest towers and base stations. These actions empty the battery. But most IoT devices don’t use cellular infrastructure the same way cell phones do.
They send or receive small data packets periodically or based on specific triggers and the batteries need to last much longer.
LTE-M enables IoT devices to use a Power Saving Mode (PSM) and lets devices use extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX). When the device is out of the PSM mode it checks regular for downlink information. With eDRX the timespan for checking on the radio is increased, thus reducing the power consumption.
Using Power Saving Mode (PSM) extends the battery's lifespan to over 10 years.
Coverage
LTE-M - Cat-M1 - Cat-M2 networks can use existing 4G LTE infrastructure. This is a significant advantage, as more than 50% of mobile connections are made on 4G networks, and 4G infrastructure is projected to cover 95% of the world by 2026.
With a Maximum Coupling Loss (MCL) of 156 decibels (dB)—14 dB higher than LTE—LTE-M networks also offer greater coverage and better indoor penetration.
Data speed
LTE-M can reach around 300 kbps in downlink and 380 kbps in uplink. It’s several times faster than NB-IoT and that’s more than enough for most IoT applications.
It means that devices using LTE-M can easily receive updates over-the-air (OTA), and data transmissions will consume less power—because the device can get back into Power Saving Mode faster.
